A Man's Got to Know his Batteries' Limitations Jan 21, 2011
By NLee the Engineer The two rechargeable batteries in this package (SANYO Eneloop Spacer Pack with 2 AA and 2 C-Size Spacers) are the best-quality low-self-discharge NiMH cells currently available. The two spacers are made of high quality plastic without any rough edges, and they looked great. The price is also very reasonable. So normally I would call this a good deal. However, if you intend to use them in appliances that accept C-cells, please beware of the following limitations:
1. The capacity of each eneloop AA cell is just 2,000mAh. In contrast, capacity of a typical alkaline C-cell (such as the Energizer E93) is rated at around 8000mAh when delivering a low current of 25mA. For a larger load current of 500mA, its capacity drops to around 4000mAh. Still, this is twice the capacity of eneloop AA cell. What this means is that: you need to remove and recharge your eneloop cells twice as frequently, compared to when using alkaline C cells.
2. The base of the C-spacer is hollow. It uses the negative terminal of the AA cell for contact. The battery compartment designed for normal C-cells typically have larger springs, so the base of the AA cell sometimes fail to make contact with the spring. This problem can often be solved by inserting a copper penny between the battery base and the spring. But it does not always work.
There are some other rechargeable C-cell options available. For example, consider the Rayovac Platinum LSD NiMH C batteries. This package is currently priced similar to the eneloop package, but it gives you two real C-sized cells, with 50% higher capacity (3000mAh vs 2000mAh). The down-side is that you'll need a battery charger that can handle C-cells.
If longest run time is your first priority, then consider buying full-capacity C cells such as the IMEDION C 5000mAh Rechargeable Batteries. Those are priced about 3x higher, and you need an expensive charger that can handle full-capacity C-cells. (Most low-cost chargers cannot fully recharge cells with capacity over 3000mAh)
No matter which option you pick, using rechargeable batteries will save you money in the long run. You just have to know your batteries' limitations, and set your expectation accordingly.

GREAT IDEA!!!! Feb 08, 2009
By Charlotte A. Hu We were really surprised to see that Sanyo Eneloop has devised a way to make AA batteries fit in all C and D products. We were doubly surprised that Sanyo Eneloop AA batteries can power our virtual walls for our iRoomba robotic vacuum cleaners, speakers, small lights, flashlights and other products.
What a great idea! I love the new ideas that Sanyo Eneloop is developing -- they produce by far the best rechargeable batteries on the market.

A Nice Combination Jan 13, 2009
By Nuknuk I love low discharge Nimh batteries and Eneloop is one of the best of the brands that offer them. Usually the "C" & "D" Eneloop spacers are sold with a larger combo pack. You can not buy just the spacers by itself. But if you want only additional spacers, this is a good combination.
By the way, Sanyo has already announced the introduction of their "C" & "D" batteries last year. It will have 3000mAh and 5700mAh capacities in that order. And you will probably need a new charger to accommodate their larger sizes.

Works ok, but doesn't last nearly as long as a real C battery Oct 03, 2010
By James Kittock I've used Eneloop AA batteries for quite some time now and have found them to be great rechargeable batteries, so I was eager to try out this way of powering devices that require C batteries. What I found was that the spacers do work nicely, but the AA batteries just don't hold enough juice for sustained operation. I did a bit of research and found out that alkaline C batteries have 2x-3x the "juice" (measured in mAh) as the Eneloop AA batteries. So I would only recommend these for cases where you don't need to use the device often or you don't mind frequent stops to recharge the batteries. In my case, I'll be looking for good rechargeable C's or sticking with alkaline for now.

Rechargable Batteries Aug 23, 2009
By Jeffrey Grinblatt
"Internist"
As advertised, these batteries came charged - no need to "charge for x amount of hours prior to use." The AA's go into a C or D battery "shell" that allows them to be used in devices that require the larger clunkier batteries. An added unexpected benefit is that the device using the batteries weighs less because there is less battery in them.
