 AA battery at its core, overpriced and low capacity Feb 04, 2010
The reason these batteries are so light is that they are basically just a AA battery at the core and they have the capacity of a good AA battery. If that's what you want, then buy them. But calling these "high capacity" is just outright false advertising. There are many D cell NiMh batteries out there that have 4 times the capacity of these and aren't much more expensive. You would save money and get the same capacity by purchasing AA batteries and using spacers.

Rayovac are the generic D cell rechargeable out there. Basically a cheap battery that works well enough. Unfortunately the 2 star reviewer was victim to amazons perpetual inaccurate milli-amp-hour spec (more than half the batteries they sell have the wrong mAh listed). It's actually 2900 mAh according to the grainger website. Bottom line that's plenty to power a flashlight for a good long while. You can get 10000 mAh batteries that will last much longer for higher demand appliances but they are much more expensive. It's because Rayovac makes D cell rechargeables that they get the 4th star, not many companies do make the cheap ones that are even half way decent. The one thing about these rechargeable D's that is very nice is the lighter weight, these maybe more so because they're not super high amp. Holding 2 of them feels like about the same as 1 alkaline D so it can make a light weight flashlight all that much easier to carry.

I haven't bought these specific batteries, so cannot talk about their quality. At 1800 mAH, they're not remotely high capacity. Rechargeable AA batteries are 2100 mAH and higher nowadays. It would be cheaper to buy D-sized spacers and use AAs in them instead of these.
